On March 14, 2014 we welcomed Simon Russell Tolman into our family! It was a wonderful day. My labor experience was just what I wanted. Regular contractions started at 3:30am that day and we went to the hospital at about 8am. By that time I was already dilated 5cm, 90% effaced. Things were moving right along! I labored for several hours and had to be up and moving because the little baby kept wanting to turn face up (no thanks!). By late afternoon I was dilated to a 9 and they decided to break my water. After laboring for another hour or so I was dilated to a 7, which was kinda a bummer. The water had been putting most of the pressure on my cervix and his head was still not quite staying where it needed to be. The contractions at that point were very intense and I was starting to get exhausted. Our midwife suggested that we start a little pitocin to help speed things up and hopefully help his head engage fully. I was really nervous about that because I was planning on a natural delivery with no pain meds and was worried the contractions would be more intense. But we decided that would be the best option and went ahead with that. I was right, the contractions were much more intense. They lasted longer and there was no relief between them like there had been previously. Thankfully, that was all he needed to get going! I decided to start pushing and after two LONG hours of pushing at 10:20pm we had our little baby boy! He was perfect and I got to have the natural delivery I wanted. Nick did just about as much work as I did, helping me labor and attending to my every need. Our doula, Boni, was wonderful too. I’m so thankful we had her there to help me relax and focus and allowing Nick to focus on me and not having to worry about all the medical stuff. The whole day was perfect and although it was painful, it was one of the best days of my life and an experience I’ll treasure forever. Simon has been doing very well! He is just perfect. He was 6lbs 1 ounce, 18 1/4 inches long. Healthy as can be! We stayed two nights in the hospital and went home on Sunday. After 3 1/2 weeks of life, he is 8lbs 10 ounces, 21 inches long which means he is growing like a champ! Still waking up quite a bit at night to eat but that’s what babies do! I am lucky enough to take the rest of the school year off and have the whole summer to enjoy this little boy before going back to work in the fall. Nick has been an amazing father, helping out with everything he can. He took a few days off but is back at work. He can’t wait to take his son out hiking and plans to start his bass guitar lessons later this month. He’s also been teaching Simon how to make contacts on his Ham Radio and Simon seems to be picking it up fairly quickly πŸ™‚ He’s going to be one smart little boy!! Here are a few newborn pictures that we had taken. Big thanks to Ramie Edwards, she did a wonderful job. Being a mother is the best thing that I’ve ever done and I’m so thankful for this perfect, healthy little boy that has been given to us. I cannot wait to do this again! and again… maybe again πŸ™‚

Maternity Pictures – 3 weeks to go! https://tolmantravels.com/2014/02/14/maternity-pictures-3-weeks-to-go/ Fri, 14 Feb 2014 09:10:46 +0000 https://tolmantravels.com/?p=2986 Well, the final countdown is on! 3 weeks from today is this little boy’s due date! We are getting very excited. Nick has been asking this baby to come now for the last 2 months and he’s really been trying to work on his patience… It’s not going well. I, on the other hand, have been enjoying this pregnancy so much I don’t know if I’m quite ready for it to be over! I always thought those women who loved pregnancy were crazy but I can now relate. I can honestly say that I LOVE being pregnant. Even the not so fun parts I am going to miss. I have had a fairly easy pregnancy though so I’m sure that helps. We’ve got everything pretty close to ready here at home and I’m driving Nick crazy with all my preparedness and lists but I’ll blame it on the pregnancy hormones… We still haven’t decided on a name, I really feel like I need to see this guy before we decide but we do have a few favorites πŸ™‚ We recently got a few maternity pictures taken and they turned out really cute! I can’t wait to go and do some newborn pictures! But we’ll have to wait a few more weeks for those πŸ™‚ Here’s a few, enjoy!

Growing Pains https://tolmantravels.com/2013/09/15/growing-pains/ Sun, 15 Sep 2013 09:30:29 +0000 https://tolmantravels.com/?p=3031 on September 15, 2013It has been such a busy few months for us! School started a few weeks ago and I started my new job. It’s a lot busier that my last job but it’s been fun and I definitely enjoy the 6 mile drive to work instead of 40! Working full time is nice too, although it makes for a long week. Nicks classes are going wonderful and little Adderley is happy as ever in our new house. Did I already post pictures of our house? If not here’s a few, not great pictures but none the less…   Being a school nurse has it’s perks πŸ™‚ We have been going crazy in our garden! We’ve canned 15 quarts and 11 pints of pickles, 15 quarts of apple pie filling, 10 pints of beans, 7 bags of zucchini, 20 bags of frozen corn and frozen a bunch of peppers of all kinds to make salsa when the tomatoes come on. It has been a busy garden for us! Now we’re trying to give away food because we have too much. It’s been fun though and we’ll do it again next year! And now for the most exciting news of all… we’re (finally) going to have a baby!!! Baby Tolman #1 is due March 12, 2014, and we could not be more excited!!!!!!! It’s about time! We’ve met our doctor here in Wyoming and she’s great and everything has been going really well. I haven’t felt awesome but it could definitely be worse so I’m not complaining. I’ve noticed some improvement this week so hopefully, things are on the up! (for a while at least..) I’m almost 15 weeks. Nick and I are both beyond excited and looking forward to what the future holds for our little growing family πŸ™‚ While we were freezing corn I found a little one that is about the size of my baby now, so I saved it and kept it on the counter to look at and make me smile πŸ™‚ crazy?? Ya, that’s what Nick said too….  8 Weeks  12 Weeks Our new crib πŸ™‚ We’re trying to spread out our baby purchases and we decided to go big for September!

What a week!! https://tolmantravels.com/2013/06/11/what-a-week/ Tue, 11 Jun 2013 09:32:59 +0000 https://tolmantravels.com/?p=3036 This week has been crazy for us. We moved to a different house here in Cowley that is much bigger with a large yard. We are very excited about this change and are hoping to be in this house and area for quite a while πŸ™‚ Yesterday we tackled the garden. Our house is still in boxes but at least the garden is planted! It was a lot of work partly because the space for gardening is very large. We’ve got about 17 rows 50ft long! It started as a weed pile in the morning, then we had a guy come rototiller it for us. Then we made the rows and planted all the stuff! Took about 5 hours and a couple sunburns but it was worth it! We decided to do flood irrigation for watering which is new for us but very popular around here, we’ll see how it goes. Here’s what we did from front to back… BeansCucumbersCarrots Candy Onions / WatermelonRed OnionsRusset PotatoesGold PotatoesRed PotatoesRed PotatoesBell, Anaheim, Jalapeno peppersCherry and Roma Tomatoes5 Rows of Corn We also planted a herb and spice graden πŸ™‚ We planted… Lavender, basil, oregano, garlic, dill, cilantro, cabbage, and 3 different kinds of lettuce. Needless to say, we will be canning A LOT this fall!! We are so excited about this move and can’t wait to get everything unpacked. House pictures soon!! Here’s some pictures of the long process! This was AFTER we pulled a MAJORITY of the weeds! What a project.. Totally worth the $50 he charged to rototiller. It took him 20 minutes! Nick making rows and ditches for the water. Finished and watering! Herb and Spice Garden under the kitchen window So pretty and definitely worth it! Can’t wait for things to start popping up!

We took the next step in our relationship… we got a puppy! This little shih tzu was a puppy from our neighbors that always came over and sat on our porch. She knows how to go up stairs but not down them so she barks until we come to play with her. She is just the cutest little thing you’ve ever seen so yesterday we went over and bought her. We’ve decided to name her Adderley (“Addi” for short). She is about 3 months old and pure bread. Here are a couple of pics!! Other than that, things are still going great here in Cowley! Month and a half until schools out, then it’s summer vacation!

Winter Madness! https://tolmantravels.com/2013/02/16/winter-madness/ Sat, 16 Feb 2013 09:35:38 +0000 https://tolmantravels.com/?p=3042 Man how time flies! Things have been VERY busy here for us!  Nick had his first concerts with his band and choir before Christmas break, both were great! His kids are doing so well and I got lots of compliments from parents on how good they are sounding compared to years past. He’s really doing a great job with the program here. Since the concert, Nick has been preparing his middle schoolers for a big festival called Showalter Festival. 1 week before the festival, the school accompanist had surgery on her eye and was unable to play for the festival and guess who gotΒ volunteeredΒ πŸ™‚ This is what I get for being married to the music teacher!!! So in 1 week I learned 50 piano accompaniments and played for 6 hours straight last Saturday!! It was a LONG day but all the kids did really well and in the end, it turned out alright. Nick also had 3 students that went to All State this year which he took them too in January. He also had 1 student make the All State Jazz Band and on that trip I got to be the chaperone  It was a lot of fun and nice to see a different part of Wyoming! We went to Casper and got to hear lots of good jazz! It was nice to get to be together, another perk of working for the same school district! Christmas was great too, I got a Cricut which I have been enjoying very much and Nick got a gortex jacket, a LC9, and a P-Bone!! (which is a plastic trombone, thanks mom!) It was very nice to be home again and spend with with the family.Paul and Jenelle finally got engaged!! We are soooo excited for them and are planning on heading home in April for their wedding. It’ll be fun to have another married couple in the family and they are really cute together. Paul is way more fun with her so we approve πŸ™‚ Other than that, just more busy days here in Cowley! We’ve had quite a bit of snow this year but still nothing compared to the Idaho usual. I’m excited for warmer weather and to head home for the summer! Until then, we’ll keep staying busy here in Wyoming!

Awesome November https://tolmantravels.com/2012/12/01/awesome-november/ Sat, 01 Dec 2012 10:06:07 +0000 https://tolmantravels.com/?p=3045 It’s been longer than I’d like to say since we updated the blog! November was an eventful month for us here in Cowley. A few weeks ago we became official Wyoming residents when we hit our first deer πŸ™‚ No serious damage was done but we do need some new paint. Lame! Nick thought it was hilarious that the deer tried to clean our very very dirty car for us. RIP Little deer. We made the 7 hour trip home for Thanksgiving and it was so worth it! We spent lots of time with family all weekend. Nick found a sub for the 2 days before break and we surprised our families 2 days early. It was a lot of fun.  We did have a small dance party in the new theater room at my parents, enjoy! For the past several months, Nick and I have been going down once a week to participate in the Northwest College Trombone Choir! It’s been a lot of fun, we usually have around 10 trombone players come to play, 2 are students at the college and the rest of us are mostly volunteers who like to play! This week we had our Christmas concert! It was awesome. We had quite a few people show up to watch and it went really well! I had someone video a few songs for us, enjoy!

October and Halloween! https://tolmantravels.com/2012/11/07/october-and-halloween/ Wed, 07 Nov 2012 10:07:34 +0000 https://tolmantravels.com/?p=3048 Well it’s been a busy couple of weeks! Nothing overly exciting but it seems like we’re always doing something. Nick has been serving in the Young Men’s with the Teachers and I recently got called to be in the Young Women’s with the Beehives.Β  That will definitely keep us both busy!Β  So far things having been going great here and we’re really liking the community! We even made the newspaper! Apparently we’re local celebrities. (Although I’m pretty sure this is a common practice for new teachers here…) Here’s a link to the article!Β http://www.lovellchronicle.com/2012/09/new-music-teachers-take-the-baton/ Work has been going well for both of us. Nick’s kids are auditioning for all kinds of state ensembles and his bands and choirs are sounding great! They’ll be having their concerts next month.Things are good at my job too. I recently went to a conference on hearing screenings in schools so I decided to put some info on my bulletin board! It turned out really cute Halloween was fun. I skipped class to stay home and hand out candy to all the cute kids in our neighborhood! It was totally worth it (although maybe not for my bro, Paul, who had to tutor me with my math homework later). Nick boycotted the holiday this year and a Dr. Pepper T-shirt after work was the closest he got to dressing up. I had to dress up for school so I decided to take some old scrubs and turn them into a lady bug! All the kids loved it and one even said, “You even still look like a nurse!” Anyway, it was a hit. Otherwise, things are going well. We are still really enjoying it here although we are both very excited to go home and visit for the holidays!! Can Thanksgiving come any sooner??????

Well it’s been a busy couple of weeks! Nothing overly exciting but it seems like we’re always doing something. Nick has been serving in the Young Men’s with the Teachers and I recently got called to be in the Young Women’s with the Beehives.Β  That will definitely keep us both busy!Β

So far things having been going great here and we’re really liking the community! We even made the newspaper! Apparently we’re local celebrities. (Although I’m pretty sure this is a common practice for new teachers here…) Here’s a link to the article!Β

Work has been going well for both of us. Nick’s kids are auditioning for all kinds of state ensembles and his bands and choirs are sounding great! They’ll be having their concerts next month.
Things are good at my job too. I recently went to a conference on hearing screenings in schools so I decided to put some info on my bulletin board! It turned out really cute

Halloween was fun. I skipped class to stay home and hand out candy to all the cute kids in our neighborhood! It was totally worth it (although maybe not for my bro, Paul, who had to tutor me with my math homework later).
